Today I'm asking if you read this that you use your internet privileges for something useful today. Email a senator or congressman and let them know what you think they should change. Here is my example

I am writing to urge you to support strong, immediate action to cut the pollution that causes global warming.

The best scientists in the world have proven that climate change is the single most important issue of our time. It is essential that you take action to protect us from the pollution being released into the atmosphere that is accelerating climate change.

Please protect our kids, our communities and our future from violent storms, rising seas and drought -- the time to act is now.

Above is the carbon copy (get it carbon, see even us activists can have some humor) statement of what everyone is supposed to send to you. I'm sure you have gotten more of these but I will take time out of my day to send you this because unlike so many other worthless things in our society, this matters. Climate change is not a myth. It is a proven fact in most scientific circles. THEY, are no longer debating it. However, we still are. A good deal of the reason people are against environmental legislation is due to its affects on business. First of all, everything we use, from the plastic in this laptop, to the what in the sandwich I will eat later today, comes from nature. Logically, it makes perfect sense to protect the environment because it supports us. The world is a web. With my self centered human outlook I place humans at the center of that web. Around us is everything else. Water is one strand. Cows are another. A different string for every resource and creature on the planet making this awesome and strong web. Once again we are in the center. Humanity chooses to exploit the world around us. Hence, we begin to use the strings around us for our own benefit. Humans are great at pulling strings. However, as we exploit these strings, we do so in a way that they become frayed, and, like some species in this world, they die out. The line is cut. Humanity is racing around, drawing on every string around us and cutting them left and right. One day, in the future, guess what happens when all the strings around us are cut? We are in the center right? Gravity takes over. The middle of the web drops out. We fall. The rest of the web can maybe on day repair itself. But we, with everything laid to waste around us, will have nothing left to use. Saving the environment doesn't hurt business, because all our resources come from around us. If we ruin the supply, you can't meet demand. That's bad for business. Secondly, the process of moving our country towards a greener way of life would undoubtably boost the economy. When Franklin Delano Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corps, he employed thousands of people that needed jobs during the great depression. Who is to say something similar cannot be done today? Take the millions of Americans that cannot find work and begin to renovate our crumbling infrastructure and make our country a greener place. Put more money into the economy, stimulate manufacturers that you have to but the materials from, and save money on the back end because a better maintained infrastructure costs less in the long run. Stopping and reversing climate change and reducing our environment impact so we can COEXIST (yes that is a real thing)  with nature is an obnoxiously obvious idea. I am a seventeen year old kid and I know this. Why can't you in congress seem to figure it out? Read THIS on the house and senate floors instead of what ever else you were planning on doing the next time you go into work. It would be worthwhile for a lot of people both here, now, and in the future.
